GADGETS I USE!

I AM A LAPTOP GUY! I USE'EM, I SELL THEM & MAKE PERIPHERALS FOR TEM!

I have some understanding of electronics, being an enthusiast and add to that the fact that my view point is slightly different- focused as much on the details of technicalities and as on the user experience, an often missed trait. And then, the various hats I don which makes my using of the computer a much more intense exercise. Here are my daily drivers.

THE PRIMARY DRIVER

It is a MacBook. I use it for all my presentations, documentations, multimedia usage and even browsing. The Mac comes with a very powerful default screen reader, calibrated for optimal performance at a reasonable load on the PC. What further compels me to use it regularly is the fact that I have been using Macs for roughly 12 years now.

I was enamoured by all the new AI features that have been flaunted by the new Windows PC and I got a Spectre which can work as my second laptop, whenever I need a Windows product, which is often times for Accessibility Work. There is an expensive product called Jaws Software which is best hosted in a sturdy, powerful device. What made HP the cut was its almost MacBook like layout. I have concerns about its durability though.

Yes, blind people can game, they can also do some GPU heavy work with slight assistance. Though I do not get time for any of it, I still have this driver loaded with a 3060 GPU, Zen 4 Architecture Ryzen 9 HX processor and a 32 gigs of RAM. And the beast is ready for a game or two for the next 5 years at the least. This is still my only dev

ASUS VIVOBOOK K15 OLED

Most often Linux is used on a bare minimum configuration but to really experience the buttery smooth OS that Ubuntu has turned into, you ought to have a mid-range product which has decent configuration. With a Zen3 5500U CPU and a 18 Gigs of Ram, this one works like a charm. The layout has a numb-pad which is disappointing.

ONEPLUS 11-PRO

NOTHING PHONE(1)

This is my primary phone. I have long separated from the iOS Ecosystem and have been OnePlus Loyalist. This is my fourth OnePlus and the reason is the smooth TalkBack experience I get with the OxygenOS and the sturdy and heavy phone that Oneplus offers. I am told the display is Gold-standard too. The audio quality is wonderful as well. Last but not the leas- the very useful Alert Slider.

NOTHING PHONE(1)

This is my second phone, and complements the OnePlus in many ways. Its stock Android experience makes it safe, easy to use and relaxing. It has a powerful processor and a good audio output mechanism that doesn't suck for a midrange phone. It's screen reader experience could have been better but it works for most of the times.

KEYBUD SMART KEYBOARD

KEYBUD SMART KEYBOARD

Once in a while, I have to use my peripheral vision to make things out. It is a difficult and painful task that leaved me at the mercy of painkillers. But Have one for special occasions. The Display is bright, it is big enough to make sense for peripheral use. Try connecting with a Doctor to understand how peripheral vision can be used.

Considering that I have rarest of rare of conditions.

Well, now is the time to advertise our own product a little. Not because we made it, but because it stands the test of quality. It is not inexpensive. And it is not a simple keyboard, it is mechanical, low profile, silent and accurate, everything that makes life easy for those whose computing experience is based on keyboards.

GALAXY WATCH S4

GALAXY WATCH S4

Although, I am planning to switch to OnePlus, this watch with a rotatory dail serves as the ultimate mechanism for blind individuals to use a smart watch. I also have some other smart watched that aren't accessible but better looking, but then it misses the point.

I also have a hearing problem and it can be risky to use something that has not been extensively quality tested. Thus, the best in the Business, although a little inaccessible(apps) is my choice. I also have a Sony WX910 that I keep as a reserve.

Major problems are the ear cup replacements. Nightmare!

HARD DRIVES: SAMSUNG, WD

I have a small cluster of hard drives that I have to carry around. One has turned out to be my favourite- a Samsung SDD, a tiny product with Fingerprint security, which makes life easy for someone who travels once in a while.

WHAT I DON'T USE & WHY?

HARD DRIVES: SAMSUNG, WD

I am not born blind, I was blinded and that happened very recently. So, I do not use Braille products. I also do not use many indicative products which are available in the market.

I believe the Apps and the GenAI revolution changes the whole game and one doesn't have to depend on legacy products for accessibility anymore.
